Welcome to Danenza Psychotherapy

A journey of growth and awareness to empower the future you want for yourself

Welcome, and thank you for visiting my website. My name is Scott Danenza and I am a qualified, registered relational integrative psychotherapist, providing both short and long term therapy to adult individuals and couples in central London, mainly in Mayfair and Marylebone as well as online via Zoom.

Therapy

There are many reasons for seeking psychotherapy. It can be helpful if you want to explore a specific problem or concern, for example, stress with work or in your personal life, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, sudden life changes, grief, identity and sexuality issues. Or perhaps you are feeling stuck in your life due to past trauma or experiencing a general lack of purpose, low mood or motivation. Therapy can be a valuable tool for self-development at any stage in your life. Just like exercising or going to the gym for our physical health, we need to give time and energy to our emotional well-being and mental health.  As a human being, navigating the world we live in does not come with an instruction manual, and it can sometimes feel overwhelming and confusing. Seeing a therapist can help you understand your situation better so you can make changes. Awareness is the first step to making better decisions about living with your past and planning for your future. Understanding the choices you have, taking an active role in what you can control, and understanding what you cannot.

I offer a positive, confidential, and supportive environment where you can share your innermost thoughts and feelings in a safe, comfortable setting. My approach in therapy is based on a shared journey that we embark on together to attempt to explore and understand your situation better. I truly wholeheartedly believe this is something we are in together.

I am a qualified Relational Integrative psychotherapist, having done a 5-year UKCP-accredited training. As an integrative psychotherapist, I have experience in many different forms of therapy through my training and work. These include Integrative humanistic psychotherapies, Existential philosophies, Internal Family Systems and Psychodynamic psychotherapy. Some of the areas that I work regularly with are Bereavement/ Grief Counselling, LGBTQ+ related issues, Disability and physical illness, Depression and Anxiety. I also have experience and knowledge working with clients alongside a 12-step program, whether they are currently working the steps along with a sponsor or have been through the program in the past. I work both face-to-face and remotely online. I have experience in both long-term therapy and time-sensitive short-term therapy with adults.

About Me

My past was in professional photography for many years, working with clients all over the world. My love of experiencing the world and its many cultures and working intimately with people brought me to change my career in order to further help people to gain awareness to see themselves and their existence from a different perspective to facilitate change. I came into therapy many years ago as a client. Therefore, from personal experience, I genuinely believe it is a gift. A gift that helped me become the man I am today and made me want to spend the rest of my life helping others.

I spent 5 years studying and in clinical training. Having completed a Foundation year in Psychotherapy and Counselling, a three-year MA in Psychotherapy and Counselling, followed by a specialisation postgraduate year in Integrative Psychotherapy. As an integrative psychotherapist, I have experience in many different therapy modalities through my training and work. These include Integrative Humanistic Psychotherapies, Existential philosophies, Internal Family Systems and Psychodynamic psychotherapy. Some of the areas that I work with regularly include Addiction and Eating disorders, Bereavement/ Grief Counselling, LGBTQ+ related issues, Disability and physical illness, Depression and Anxiety.

I have experience working in both the private and public sectors of the mental health industry. I run my own private practice in London, that sees clients from all over the UK and worldwide, I also work for the NHS as a part of a team of counsellors for a Talking Therapies centre, under the West London NHS Trust for Hammersmith and Fulham. This centre provides free short-term counselling for the local community. I speak English, Swedish, French and Italian. I work both face-to-face and remotely online and can sometimes offer a hybrid program for certain clients who travel often. I have experience in both long-term therapy and time-sensitive short-term therapy with adults. I am happy to work alongside professional interpreters as well.

I work in a trauma-informed practice. When working with many clients who have symptoms of depression and anxiety, I am aware that these symptoms can stem from past trauma, sexual or identity issues or complicated family relationships. I believe gaining awareness of one’s past is a fundamental step to understanding what is happening and why in the present. Therapy creates a space where we can reflect on what choices we have in order to move forward safely and comfortably. I currently work in private practice and for the NHS in West London.

I am a registered and approved practitioner with AXA Health and Vitality Health insurance

Please find below some links to the professional organisational psychotherapy associations and governing bodies of which I am registered as a fully accredited clinical member.

Psychotherapy takes place in a safe space, where you can meet with someone who will listen with sensitivity, empathy - and without judgement. In the therapy frame thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence. Working together I can help you gain greater insight into the difficulties you are facing, help you understand why you act or react to them the way you do, and see how you can start to make better, heathier choices moving forward.

Trouble with a relationship; anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression - many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Psychotherapy gives us a set of tools we can use to help gain a better understanding of what’s causing these problems - and how you can move towards managing or resolving them.

FAQs

1. What is Relational Integrative Psychotherapy?

Relational Integrative Psychotherapy combines several therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, humanistic modalities such as IFS or Gestalt, cognitive-behavioural methods, and existential philosophies with a particular emphasis on the relationship between therapist and client. The therapeutic relationship is seen as a central cornerstone to healing and personal growth. In this approach, we work collaboratively to explore your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and past experiences in a supportive, confidential, and non-judgmental environment.

2. How do I know if psychotherapy is right for me?

Psychotherapy or counselling can be helpful if you’re dealing with challenges such as anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or feeling stuck in life. It’s also beneficial for personal development, healing from past trauma, or navigating major life transitions. If you’re unsure, an initial consultation can help you assess if therapy is the right step and if my approach suits your needs.

3. Do you offer in-person or online sessions?

I offer both in-person therapy sessions in various locations across London such as Marylebone, St James and St Pauls, as well as online therapy, mainly via Zoom. This gives you the flexibility to choose the format that best fits your lifestyle and preferences, whether you prefer face-to-face interaction or the convenience of online sessions from your home.

4. How do online therapy sessions work?

Online therapy sessions take place mainly via Zoom though I am also open to MS Teams and WhatsApp/Facetime, if necessary, where we engage in real-time conversations on camera, similar to in-person sessions. I will provide a secure Zoom link before each session. You’ll need a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. Online therapy although different in some ways, many people find it is equally effective as in-person therapy and provides a safe, confidential space for our work together.

5. What can I expect during my first session?

The first session, which is charged at a lower rate, is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns you might have. I’ll explain my approach and answer any questions you have about the process. This session may also include a more in-depth assessment where I will ask specific questions of your situation and needs to help us both determine if we’re a good fit to work together.

6. How long are the therapy sessions?

Each session lasts 50 minutes to 1 hour. This is the standard length for therapy sessions and allows sufficient time to explore key issues and make meaningful progress. If needed, longer sessions can be discussed and arranged as one offs during our time together.

7. How many sessions will I need?

I offer both short-term therapy (usually 10 to 18 sessions) and long-term, open-ended therapy. The duration of therapy depends on your personal goals and the issues you’re looking to address. Short-term therapy can help with specific challenges or goals, while long-term therapy provides a deeper, ongoing exploration of your emotional and psychological well-being. We will regularly review your progress to ensure the therapy is meeting your needs and adjust, as necessary.

8. Are sessions confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is essential in therapy. What we discuss in our sessions is kept strictly private and secure, with the exception of situations where there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or where the law requires disclosure for court for example. I will explain the limits of confidentiality in more detail during the first session.

9. How do I book an appointment?

You can book an appointment by contacting me through the website’s contact form, by email, or by phone (please bear in mind that due to the nature of my work, my phone is off a lot of the time but is regularly checked in between sessions). Once we’ve discussed your availability and therapy needs, we’ll find a suitable time for your first session. I will confirm the details and provide any information you need to get started.

10. What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please provide at least 48 hours’ notice.

11. What are your fees?

Generally, my fees are £85 per session online and £105 session for in person face-to-face sessions. I do also offer a sliding scale based on individual circumstances and availability. Please reach out to discuss your specific situation, and we can find a fee structure that works best for you.
